Very odd...

Mar. 1st, 2009 | 11:58 pm

Had a dream last night.  I rarely remember my dreams, but this one was vivid and stood out.

First thing I remember is hearing "Mr. Keeling!  Front and center!"

And there at the bottom of a staircase is Jamie.  Grinning like a Cheshire cat.

I remember feeling really...odd.  Confused.  You know, kind of like you'd feel if you suddenly came across someone who you thought had died.

I remember trying to explain to him that he had drowned or something, but he wasn't having any of it.  Lucid dreaming is not my thing, but I wish I would have just had a conversation with him.

It'll be 6 years in August.  I still miss him.  Perhaps he was trying to communicate with me through my dreams?  Who knows, but that's a nice thought isn't it?

in person...the face of the gods. They were at the temple known as the Post Gazette Pavilion.

THE GODS OF METAL!!!

I saw Motorhead, Heaven and Hell (Black Sabbath with Dio), and JUDAS FUCKING PRIEST (in the words of Rob Halford (praise be His holy name)).

Such a good fucking show. I've wanted to see Priest since I got into them when I was like 16. Halford can still wail like a banshee, and none of the bands have lost a step. Ronnie James Dio is 64 for Halford's sake, and he was up there belting out tunes like a man half (or less!) his age. Incredible. There should be some pretty amusing pics of some of us aging metalheads at the show floating about. I'll post 'em if I can find 'em.

Das BlogSpotten

Jun. 18th, 2008 | 11:53 pm

I've started another (yes, like I need another, as I hardly post to this one), but anyways...

http://mwfccw.blogspot.com/

Stop on by and check it out.  I may actually end up posting to it more frequently than this one because I realized recently that I have approximately 1 bajillion pictures, graphics, etc on my hard drive, that are just languishing there, waiting to be shared with my friends, and the world at large to a certain extent.  Now, I hear you say "But Tom, you can do that on LJ", to which I say "Yes, I can, but when it comes right down to it, I'm a lazy sack, and it's WAY easy to post photos at the BlogSpot.  So there.

Stop by and see Cthulhu, boobs, and leprachauns.  Yeah, it's that kind of a thing.  Or something.

Ah, Wikipedia... or... I stole CBS

Jun. 11th, 2008 | 10:06 pm

Wikipedia, you never fail to entertain me.

So I'm watching the VH1 show "I Love The 80's" (OK, not so much watching, it was playing in the background as I did other stuff.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it.) (and really - who DOESN'T love the 80's?!?).  Anyway, they had a brief thing on about Max Headroom.  Damn!  Hadn't thought about him for *years*.  So, off to Wikipedia I go!  In the article, the "Max Headroom Pirating Incident" is mentioned.  Never one to turn down an interesting sounding link, I followed it.  Anyway, I won't spoil it for you, but do yourself a favor - go and be creeped out by this successful TV signal hijacking.  The actual video can be watched via some of the links in the "External Links" area.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Headroom_pirating_incident

Not linked from Wikipedia, but this article is my favorite:
http://xmbill.wordpress.com/2007/02/11/wttw-chicago-max-headroom-pirating-incident-11-22-87/

The coolest part about it?  The guy and his apparent cohorts were never caught!  Also interesting to note is that there hasn't been another incident of signal hijacking since.

Just wanted to share.

Oh, and I'm a big ol' geek for the Art of Noise, whom have a Max Headroom connection as well:

That's all for this completely random update.  What can I say - I'm feeling creative!

An oldie, but a goodie!

Apr. 15th, 2008 | 11:03 pm

And no, I ain't talkin' about myself! I wrote this several years ago. It first appeared on the Fantasm message boards, as a Fantasm-specific advice piece. It was pretty well received, and I thought it was pretty funny. Sometime later, I converted it into a generalized "So you're going to a convention" type of a piece (paper? article?). In any case, after doing that change over, I don't *think* I ever reposted it anywhere. By that time Fantasm had (sadly) run it's course, and I haven't been to a true convention since then. I make the trip to Pennsic every year, but that's been about it.  Since it's getting to be "Convention Season"  (WABBIT SEASON) , I thought I'd throw this out there again, for your entertainment.  Or, you can point and laugh if you prefer.  As a note, in addition to Pennsic, I should be at Dracon Con this year, so look out!

And so, without any further ado, here's the "So you're going to a convention" uh, thing that I wrote many moons ago. Enjoy, and please, feel free to comment to your hearts content.

(As a note, I tried and tried to do an LJ cut, but it simply would not cooperate, so fuck it - you have my apologies.  Apparently I've got teh dumb and can't figure out something as fucking basic as an lj cut.)

Nevermind my above bitching - apparently it decided to work for some reason.

Edit #2: Ok, it's not working again.  I give up.  The article may, or may not be under a cut.  I just don't know...

So yeah...

Feb. 28th, 2008 | 12:32 pm

Ok, so it's been like, Oh I dunno...forever - and a day - since I last updated. My sincerest apologies. This distraction, like the numerous others in my life, get put on the proverbial back burner for longer than they should. I'm a slacker. Mea culpa.

Anyway, City of Heroes has been taking up a bit of my spare time.

Oh, and the whole "planning on moving to Pittsburgh" thing is eating up large chunks of time as well.

Yes, that's right, yours truly is finally, mercifully, getting out of the South to cooler climes. I've already had 1 face-to-face interview up there with a company, a phone interview yesterday, and I have another phone interview scheduled for tomorrow. So it looks like this'll be happening pretty soon. Hooray for change!

Back from Pennsic

Aug. 12th, 2007 | 11:07 pm
mood: grumpy grumpy

Well, as the title implies, I'm back, and none too happy about it.

Despite the fact that it rained a lot last week up there, I had a great, great time.  Met some new folks, hung out with some old friends, got way too drunk one night - all in all, a basically perfect time.

Tomorrow, it's back to work.

I can't remember having PCD (post con depression) this badly before.  Well, I guess this would be PPD (Post Pennsic Depression), but still...  Actually, I have my suspicions as to why PPD has hit me so hard this time around, but I'm keeping that to myself.  Suffice it to say, it'll take me a while to get back into the proverbial groove at work, and I'll probably be a grumpy bastard until that happens.

I wish I was in the woods in Pennsylvania.

Things going on...

May. 20th, 2007 | 10:39 am

In no particular order.

Spent the better part of yesterday putting together a swingset my Dad got Drew for his (Drew's that is) birthday.  I will NEVER put another swingset together as long as I live.  I don't know if it was just the basic make of the thing or what, but every step of construction was a pain in the ass.  Drew seems to love it, so I guess it was worth it.  Just barely though.

I was potentially going to get a call and meet some friends at the Aiken Highland Games and Celtic Festival, but they didn't call, so I just built the aforementioned swingset yesterday.

Saw the play "Killer Joe" at Le Chat Noir in downtown Augusta on Friday night.  It was fuckin' awesome.  One of my Bendovaho Brothers was the lead, and he did a phenomenal job.  The whole cast did, actually.  It's running next week as well - I highly recommend it.
http://www.lcnaugusta.com

Afterwards I met with another friend at Red Hugh's (Irish Pub) for a couple of drinks.  It was a going away party of sorts.  See, said friend got a job as broadcaster/PR for the Peoria Riverman of the AHL.  We're really happy for him around here, but it sucks that he's leaving.  You see, in relatively short order, he's become one of my best, closest friends, and Drew thinks the world of "Hockey Tom".  We're going to miss him a lot around here, but it's on to bigger and better things for him, and we wish him only the best.
http://www.rivermen.net/

On Tuesday afternoon, I jet off to Philadelphia for the rest of the week.  Company trip, yadda yadda.  I should have evenings free, relatively speaking, so does anyone have any suggestions as to what to do whilst in Philly?

Damn I have some smart and talented friends!

The Green Bear has said this better and more eloquently than I ever could, so I will copy/paste his thoughts Re: the death of Jerry Falwell forthwith.

posted by: [info]thegreenbear
My turn to add to the masses.

I would like to say something nice about Mr.Falwell. I honestly would. I believe all people have a quality to them that makes their presence on the earth valid. To paraphrase the South Park movie, he brought enough hate and intolerance to this world to almost start a war and, indeed, he waged one against human rights, individual dignity, the American culture, and the humanity of the rest of the world. His ceaseless assault on the intelligence and integrity of those that sought anything aside from what he wanted them to seek was a tireless labor of self motivated and perpetuating hate, contempt, and xenophobia. This onslaught of his may have rallied the masses of like minded individuals to his side and his cause, but it also has become a shining example to the rest of the world of what a bigot and hate-monger can become when the rest of the world practices the one thing he wanted it to NOT practice... Tolerance.

Thank you Mr.Falwell. Thank you for your contribution to history's examples of what the world should not accept. It is a much better place now that you have left it. The wounds you have left on this collective planet will heal eventually, but the scars will last for some time and keep your memory fresh in our collective nightmares. Perhaps now that your rhetoric and brainwashing have ceased issuing forth from your lips, perhaps those that fell prey to your mind games will get on with the business of being human again.

And for the rest of our sakes, I hope that any progeny of your crusade are crushed with absolute and extreme prejudice.

For all your contributions, I thank you and spit on your grave.

May you rot in your Hell.
